Even though our Camino adventure is still weeks away, the planning has already been a journey in itself ……equal parts exciting, overwhelming, and mildly obsessive – hello, gear research rabbit hole. The struggle is real. There’s been a lot of behind-the-scenes action: mapping out our route, figuring out logistics, training, and acquiring all the essentials.

Turns out, picking the right socks is practically a science. And, I NEVER, EVER, in a million years, would have guessed I would be in a situation where I would pay $35 for one pair of panties just because they are made of material that dries quickly. But more importantly, wicks moisture and offers antimicrobial properties that keeps bacteria at bay. No stinky hoo-ha for this gal! Who knew?
We’re still ironing out a few details, but one thing I really want to do is blog every day—at least a little check-in to let family and friends know we’re alive, making progress, and haven’t given up to become volunteer café con leche servers. Will anyone care? Who knows, but I like the idea of documenting the experience as it unfolds and taking along anyone who wants to join the journey. I know we will experience more than we will be able to process in real time, and recording it with word and pictures will be helpful.
The trick, of course, is figuring out the most efficient way to post without it eating into precious downtime. After walking 10 to 20 miles a day, I imagine I’ll be more interested in elevating my feet than composing lengthy reflections. But I do want to capture the heart of the daily journey—where we start, where we end up, and all the magic in between. Hopefully, this will not include documenting the aches, pains and blisters!
It is shaping up to be the adventure of a lifetime, not just because of the incredible experience itself, but also because five weeks is a long time to step away from home.
Who knows what future adventures might bring, but this one? This one is going to be big.
Stay tuned …….
