Greetings My Fellow Baby Boomers!

My name is Katy.  I am a 50+er learning to navigate this time in my life.  My hope is that, through this blog, I can find other like-minded women who can accompany me on this journey.  I know there’s plenty of us out there!

I hope to share and inspire you with my own trials and tribulations, first, in the area of fitness and nutrition.  I am also eager to explore such topics as empty nest syndrome, spirituality, friends and family, community service as well as a multitude of other subjects and interests……..hence the name, “Katy-Ala-Surprise.”**

I am the youngest of eight, yes…………. I said 8!  All eight of us are baby boomers.  We were all born between 1946-1964.  My oldest sibling turned 70, and I, 54.  As many large families were then, I was raised in the catholic church and, like all of my older siblings, went to catholic schools.

I married young, right after graduating from college, and 6 months later was partnering with my husband in a dental laboratory business.  We worked together side by side for a very long time, raised 2 daughters and after 23 years of marriage, amicably separated.  This was a life changing move for me and, by far, the most fearless thing I have ever done.  My destiny, as well as my children’s, was forever altered.

But………..I have not looked back.

I would not have ever expected life at this age to be so completely rewarding and equally challenging.  My goal is to explore the many aspects of the baby boomer generation approaching our last act.  My intention is to KEEP IT AUTHENTIC!  Ultimately, I’d like for this to be an honest commentary on life.

I invite you to join me!

**The name for my blog, “Katy-Ala-Surprise,” came from my children many years ago. As my kids were growing up and there were so many demands with regards to homework, sports, and my work schedule, I became extremely proficient at throwing meals together after long work days. My daughters would invariably ask “What’s for dinner, Mom?” Back then I made a lot of casseroles with whatever I had on hand, and instead of giving it a name, I’d just respond, “It’s a surprise.” Somewhere along the line, the girls dubbed my dinners “Katy-Ala-Surprise!”
