Wildlife on Lake Papakeechie

Days Remaining to Finish Cooking Class:  63                             Average Grade:  98%

It was wonderful to spend 4 days at the lake this past weekend.  Not only did we get a lot of yard work done, upkeep and maintenance, but we also had a splendid amount of time to play!

The cottage we spend time at is on Lake Papakeechie and is owned by me and 7 other  siblings.  Every one of us tries our best to help with whatever we can when possible but we are all scattered across the country.  Unfortunately my brother Dan, and his wife Pam, end up executing most of the drudgery.   They live the closest and, well, they’re both “get-er-done” kind of people.  They very well  may be up for sainthood.

When we are there, my husband and I try to get done as much as we can right off the bat so we can have more time to “play,” which is code for fishing.  My husband and I love to fish, but only in sport.

They always go right back in after a picture or two, if worthy!

A Small Mouth Bass that Poo caught.
A little guy, (Bass), that took the bait.

This guy wasn’t really worth a picture.   The fishing wasn’t very good this past weekend.

We tried all weekend to catch something worth bragging about and Pookie, (my husband Dave), caught about 4 large mouth bass but none that were noteworthy.

We did see a lot of common wildlife on our weekend adventures……

Check out this beauty ……

A Blue Heron, I think.

We got very close to him along the shoreline as we fished, and he didn’t scare easy!

We were circling a tiny island, that the beavers had destroyed all the trees on a few years back, when we came across this …………..

If you look closely in this second photo you can make out the baby on top of the mommy 🙂

The following day, Poo and I walked around the lake and came across a very small Box Turtle that escaped from the lake and was in the middle of the road.  Poo came to the rescue and put him back in the grass near the water.  Not even 100 yards on down the road, we stumbled on to another one but this dude was SIZABLE!

He also needed to be rescued or he would have, most assuredly, been considered turtle soup!  The poor things just move too slow across the road.
