The Countdown to My Cooking Class

The Countdown to the start of my cooking class:  15 Days

I decided to take an online cooking class and I’m not sure how it will work, but it’s my next adventure!  It is a commitment of, approximately, three months.  My understanding of taking this class online is that I will watch instructional videos, read the required material, take quizzes related to what I watch and read,  perform tasks related to the information, then take and submit the required pictures related to the tasks.  All grades will be based on these exercises.

Apparently, if I want culinary credit, this class will qualify.  Of course…….you have to pass and although I am able to work at my own pace, I have to complete the course within the three-month time period.

May 2nd is right around the corner!

Idk ……  I might be a little crazy, but it seemed like a good idea when I signed up.  Nope …… no alcohol was involved when I made this decision, but I do think I had a momentary lapse in judgement.

The website states that no previous cooking skills or any special equipment is needed.  However, it was recommended that the participant……yep, me ……… have a few select items on hand, so I did purchase a few things that I didn’t have.

They suggest you have a set of, either glass or stainless, mixing bowls in various sizes.  I’m excited to try these babies out, from Bellermain, as they have this great non-slip silicone bottom.  There’s nothing worse than trying to stir a stiff mixture and then the bowl slips and goes flying.  Been there, done that!  Each one also has popularly used measurements etched on the inside of each bowl, and they come with air-tight lids for storage.

I also needed an extra-large cutting board.  This one is 18″x14″and made out of a gorgeous teak wood from Teak Haus.  I almost hate to cut on it!

The only other item I needed was a chef’s knife.  You know …….. probably not the kind most of us still have in our knife drawer, that we all remember receiving for a wedding present, the same knives we have never sharpened.  This one is a Shun, which when I googled “chef knife,” this name brand came up as a great knife at a reasonable price.

That is ……… if you think $130 is reasonable.  I haven’t used it yet so the jury is still out, but hey, I’m “all in” for this adventure.  We will see…..

I purchased all of these items from Amazon using my Prime account and that means free shipping on many items.  I will be sure to comment on my observations of these products as I use them and can really assess their quality.

You only live once, lick the bowl!
