Grilled Peaches and Ice Cream

I’ve never really been a fan of peaches. Apparently, you need to eat them when they’re ripe, which means they will be very juicy and as you bite into them the juice of the fruit will squirt out in all directions including, running down your chin.

I know, it might be Un-A-Merican.

But, when my sister-in-law, Patz, wanted to share her big score from the “peach truck,” I didn’t want to offend her by refusing her generous offer. I did tell her I didn’t really care for peaches but had wanted to try them grilled, none the less.

She wanted me to take more however, I only left with 6, thinking that if they went to waste, at least I didn’t waste too much of her hard earned cash-o-la.

I have heard others rave about grilled peaches but have never tried them, because, I don’t EVER buy peaches. Did I mention I’m not a fan?

Patz left me with strict instructions to leave the peaches on the counter for about 2 days until fully ripe at which time we could eat them, bake something or put them in the freezer.

Grill 5 minutes on each side.

I decided to try the grilled version everyone so enthusiastically talks about.

A good choice for a peach sceptic!

Cinnamon Sugared Grilled Peaches

  • 6 whole ripe peaches
  • Cinnamon & sugar mixture

Directions:

Fire up the grill to high. (I used my Jenn-Air Grill) Slice peaches in half all the way around, twist and pull apart. Discard the pit. After the grill is hot, place peach halves face down on the grill for approximately 5 minutes.* Turn peaches over, scantily sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar, (they don’t need much), and grill another 5 minutes or so.

Serve immediately with your choice of ice cream.

*With my Jenn-Air Grill, many times I turn the heat to high to heat the grill quickly and then, depending on what I am grilling, turn the heat down but, I forgot to turn the heat back down after I placed them face down. You can see the charred grill marks on the peaches but they did not taste burnt. Let’s just say I “lucked out” this time around. 🙂

Store left-overs in fridge. Re-heat in microwave to be enjoyed again. I threw one of the halves into my post workout smoothie last week and it was delicious.

Because we were headed to the lake for the long 4th of July weekend, I put the left-overs in the freezer and I will add them to my smoothies next week.

I might have to re-evaluate my previous position on peaches …………
